Endolymphatic hydrops and III type allergic reaction.

T Harada, T Matsunaga, K Hong

    Acta Oto-Laryngologica

    Summary

Immune complexes may form in endolymphatic fluid due to the presence of IgG antibody and complement. While not the sole cause, immune complexes are a potential contributing factor to endolymphatic hydrops.

    Area of Science:

    • Immunology
    • Otolaryngology

    Background:

    • The inner ear's endolymphatic fluid contains IgG antibody and complement.
    • Immune complex formation is theoretically possible within this fluid.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To explore the potential role of immune complexes in the pathogenesis of endolymphatic hydrops.

    Main Methods:

    • Analysis of IgG antibody and complement presence in endolymphatic fluid.
    • Assessment of potential immune complex formation.

    Main Results:

    • Both IgG antibody and complement were detected in endolymphatic fluid.
    • The formation of immune complexes in this fluid is plausible.

    Conclusions:

    • Immune complex formation is a possible factor in endolymphatic hydrops.
    • Further research is needed to clarify the exact contribution of immune complexes to this condition.
