    Area of Science:

    • Virology
    • Immunology
    • Cell Biology

    Background:

    • Flaviviruses pose a significant global health threat.
    • Accurate detection of flavivirus antibodies is crucial for diagnosis and epidemiological studies.
    • Existing methods for antibody detection can be complex or costly.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To describe a novel micro-neutralization test for detecting flavivirus antibodies.
    • To evaluate the specificity and practicality of the developed assay.

    Main Methods:

    • Utilized PS line of cells in flat-bottomed microtiter plates.
    • Assessed the neutralization of cytopathic effect by specific antibodies.
    • Performed cross-neutralization tests with Southeast Asian flaviviruses and hyperimmune mouse ascitic fluids.

    Main Results:

    • The micro-neutralization test effectively detected flavivirus antibodies.
    • The assay demonstrated specificity when tested against homologous and heterologous flaviviruses.
    • The test proved to be simple and cost-effective to perform.

    Conclusions:

    • The described micro-neutralization test is a specific and practical method for flavivirus antibody detection.
    • This assay offers a simple and inexpensive alternative for flavivirus research and diagnostics.
