Dehydrogenase activity and loss of formazan from tissue sections

Formazans can be lost from tissue sections when the incubation medium is removed at the end of a dehydrogenase reaction. The loss is not uniform and will clearly affect the interpretation of results. This suggests that both the qualitative evaluation of the reaction and the measurement of enzyme activity should be made at the time of incubation.
