    Area of Science:

    • Oncology
    • Radiotherapy
    • Dermatologic Surgery

    Background:

    • Malignant histiocytoma is a rare neoplastic proliferation.
    • Surgical excision is a common treatment for lip tumors, but can be disfiguring.
    • Radiation therapy offers a non-invasive alternative for specific oncological cases.

    Observation:

    • A 19-year-old female presented with malignant histiocytoma of the upper lip.
    • Treatment options included surgical resection or radiation therapy.
    • The patient's case necessitated a conservative approach to preserve facial aesthetics.

    Findings:

    • X-ray treatment was selected over surgical intervention.
    • The patient received radiotherapy for the upper lip malignancy.
    • No evidence of tumor relapse was observed over a 26-month follow-up period.

    Implications:

    • Radiotherapy can be a viable and effective treatment for malignant histiocytoma of the lip.
    • Non-surgical oncological treatments can achieve favorable outcomes while minimizing cosmetic impact.
    • This case supports the use of radiation as a limb-sparing and organ-sparing alternative in specific head and neck cancers.
