[The value of mammary thermography. A report on 655 cases (author's transl)]

A total of 655 patients were investigated by both mammography and contact thermography, and 63 cancers of the breast were detected. Thermography was slightly more sensitive (0.82) than mammography (0.75). They were of equal specificity (0.96 and 0.97). A critical analysis of the experimental conditions, however, leads the authors to propose thermography as the essential investigation completing clinical examination and mammography. It may also have a certain prognostic value, but this remains to be demonstrated.
