Inhibition of the mitotic response in regenerating mouse liver during viral hepatitis

|August 1, 1981
Abstract:
Viral hepatitis caused by infection with murine hepatitis virus strain A59 has been shown to affect the mitotic response after partial hepatectomy in mice. Normal mice showed a delayed response, whereas nude mice did not show any response, even 5 days after partial hepatectomy.

Liver Regeneration
The liver is an important organ in vertebrates that plays an essential role in metabolism. It is also responsible for storing and redistributing nutrients such as carbohydrates, fats, and vitamins in the body. Additionally, the liver releases bile salts which are critical for digesting food and eliminating toxic metabolites from the body.

Inhibitors of Viral Protein Synthesis
Protein synthesis is indispensable for viral replication, as viruses lack the cellular machinery required for this process and must hijack the host's translational apparatus. In response, host cells deploy a critical innate immune defense involving interferons, specialized cytokines that play a central role in inhibiting viral propagation.Upon viral detection, infected cells release interferons that bind to receptors on adjacent uninfected cells, activating the JAK-STAT signaling pathway and...
