Late adrenal dysfunctioning after whole-body irradiation of rats

Abstract:
After a 750 rd (7,5 Gy) irradiation of rats, adrenal corticosterone levels were high and plasma ACTH and corticosterone levels normal beyond day 15. ACTH receptors of adrenal cell membrane and corticosterone half-lives in plasma were not at the origin of adrenal dysfunctioning. Cyclic GMP in adrenal cells seems to be an important component in this dysfunctioning.
