    Summary

    Human T-cell leukemia virus type II (HTLV-II) can transform normal human lymphocytes. This retrovirus infects both B and T cells but specifically transforms T-cells, leading to permanent cell lines.

    Background:

    • Human T-cell leukemia virus type II (HTLV-II) is a distinct retrovirus.
    • HTLV-II has been isolated from patients with T-cell leukemia.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the transforming ability of HTLV-II on normal human peripheral blood lymphocytes.
    • To determine which cell types HTLV-II infects and transforms.

    Main Methods:

    • Cocultivation of HTLV-II-infected T-cell lines (Mo-T) with normal human peripheral blood lymphocytes.
    • Cocultivation of HTLV-II-infected B-cell lines (Mo-B) with normal human peripheral blood lymphocytes.
