    Summary

    A case of hematocolpos due to an imperforate hymen was diagnosed in a 16-year-old girl. This condition presented as a pelvic mass and absent menstruation despite pubertal development.

    Background:

    • Hematocolpos, the accumulation of menstrual blood in the vagina, is a rare condition often associated with congenital anomalies.

    • A 16-year-old African female presented with cryptomenorrhea (absent menstruation) despite secondary sexual characteristics.
    • Physical examination revealed an abdominopelvic doughy mass and a boggy vaginal mass.
    • A bulging, imperforate hymen was identified as the cause of obstruction.

    • The diagnosis of hematocolpos secondary to an imperforate hymen was confirmed.
