[Postoperative courses in space occupying processes of the cranial base]

The postoperative complications of two collectives are compared: 100 patients with space-occupying processes in the base of the skull and 100 patients with mainly space occupying intracerebral processes. The first collective was exclusively, the second mainly operated on microsurgically. The group showing processes of the base of the skull shows a greater number and more frequently occurring complications than the comparative group. The relation to the brain stem as a cause of this fact is discussed. In all studied patients, no cerebellar stupor occurred. This seems to be in relation with the less stressing procedure in the employment of microtechniques.
