    Summary

    Recurrent parotitis in children may stem from autoimmune issues. Biopsies revealed immune deposits, suggesting immune complexes contribute to this salivary gland disorder.

    Background:

    • Recurrent parotitis is a condition affecting salivary glands.
    • Its underlying causes are not fully understood.

    Observation:

    • Labial salivary gland biopsies revealed chronic sialoadenitis in two children.
    • Immunofluorescence identified immunoglobulin and complement deposits in small juxta-acinar vessels.

    Findings:

    • Case 1 presented with gluten enteropathy, IgA deficiency, and high antinuclear antibody (ANA) titers, showing in vivo ANA fixation.
    • Case 2 exhibited IgM deposition at the dermo-epidermal junction of the skin.

    Implications:

    • Autoimmune reactivity may contribute to the development of recurrent parotitis.
