[Immunofluorescence method for the detection of fungi in bronchial secretions]

Abstract:
A method for detecting fungal elements in bronchial secretions with the aid of indirect immunofluorescence is described. Advantages of this method are the white fluorescence of fungal elements on dark background, whereas conventional staining methods (Grocott, PAS) also stain mucus. Further on it is possible to demonstrate with this immunofluorescence test the presence of antibodies against fungi in patients sera. Advantages and disadvantages of this method are discussed.
