    Area of Science:

    • Microbiology
    • Infectious Diseases
    • Urology

    Background:

    • Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is a common cause of neonatal infections.
    • GBS is rarely implicated as a cause of urethritis in adult males.

    Observation:

    • A case of urethritis in an adult male is presented.
    • Clinical presentation included urethral discharge.

    Findings:

    • Gram stain of urethral discharge revealed Gram-positive cocci in pairs and chains, consistent with streptococci.
    • Culture of urethral discharge isolated Group B Streptococcus.
    • The patient showed a positive clinical response to phenoxymethyl penicillin treatment.

    Implications:

    • This case highlights the potential for Group B Streptococcus to cause urethritis in adult males.
    • Early diagnosis and appropriate antibiotic treatment are crucial for managing GBS urethritis.
    • Further research may be warranted to understand the epidemiology and risk factors for GBS urethritis in this population.
