Abstract:
This article is based on a study of 178 patients with the diagnosis of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome and a review of the literature, including diagnosis, symptoms, and treatment. Patients were treated by means of physical therapy, with relief of muscle and joint symptoms in 64 percent of the patients and a recurrence rate of 20 percent. Ear symptoms were relieved in 54 percent of the patients with a 32 percent recurrence rate. X-ray findings are also reviewed.
