Abstract:
Coronary artery disease is an important potential cause of a sudden event such as myocardial infarction, chest pain or an arrhythmia. These may lead to immediate and unexpected incapacitation of a pilot. Current techniques for investigation allow the detection of a group of patients who have sustained a myocardial infarct or a major coronary event and who have a prognosis which is appreciably worse than that of the general population. But identification of a group with a good prognosis is more difficult. It is equally difficult to identify reliably patients who have suffered a minor coronary event and have an excellent prognosis. The presence of coronary disease predicts coronary events.
