    Background:

    • Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is associated with zinc deficiency in adults.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the effect of zinc supplementation on growth in adolescents with SCA.
    • To assess if zinc supplementation can overcome growth deficits in this population.

    Main Methods:

    • A controlled trial was conducted.
    • Participants were 14- to 19-year-old sickle cell anemia subjects with growth retardation.
    • Zinc supplementation was administered and its effects were monitored.
