    Area of Science:

    • Biomaterials Science
    • Dental Mechanics
    • Biomechanics

    Background:

    • Investigating functional deformation in six-unit fixed mandibular bridges.
    • Utilizing strain gauges to measure mechanical responses under load.

    Observation:

    • Three distinct model types were prepared from a partially dentate subject.
    • Strain gauges (linear and rosette) were applied to study loading deformation.
    • Bridges were mounted and subjected to loads from 0 to 491 N in a universal testing machine.

    Findings:

    • Significant variations in strain magnitude and principal strain direction were observed across the three model types.
    • The mechanical properties and design of supporting structures demonstrably influenced strain patterns.

    Implications:

    • Highlights the critical role of supporting structure design in the biomechanical behavior of fixed dental prostheses.
    • Informs the development of more predictable and durable dental appliances through material and design optimization.
