    Summary

    Hemodialysis in chronic renal failure patients significantly increases cardiac output and decreases blood pressure and peripheral resistance. This suggests reduced afterload contributes to improved cardiac function during treatment.

    Background:

    • Chronic renal failure (CRF) impacts cardiovascular function.
    • Hemodialysis (HD) is a critical treatment for CRF, but its effects on hemodynamics require further elucidation.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the hemodynamic changes during the initial phase of hemodialysis in patients with chronic renal failure.
    • To determine the relationship between cardiac output, blood pressure, and peripheral resistance during hemodialysis.

    Main Methods:

    • Invasive and non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring in 35 CRF patients during the first 2 hours of hemodialysis.
    • Cardiac output measurement using dye dilution technique and Swan-Ganz catheterization.
    • Analysis of mean blood pressure, total peripheral resistance, mean pulmonary artery pressure, and pulmonary artery wedge pressure.

    Main Results:

    • A significant increase in cardiac output (p < 0.05) was observed in patients without severe myocardial damage during hemodialysis.
