[Suture dehiscence of the large intestine: is the surgeon a risk factor?]

In 87 of 1519 (5.7%) anastomoses of the colon insufficiencies did ensue. There is a significant increase in insufficiencies of the suture in cases of bad general condition or peritonitis and when an emergency operation had to be performed. The experience of the surgeon does not affect the frequency of anastomotic leakage. The insufficiency mostly results from mistakes of the techniques of operation. The surgeon is the main risk of anastomotic leakage.
