    Background:

    • Pruritic dermatoses represent a significant clinical challenge.
    • Crotamiton is a commonly used topical agent for symptomatic relief of itch.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the antipruritic efficacy of 10% crotamiton lotion in a controlled clinical setting.
    • To compare crotamiton lotion against its vehicle in patients with pruritic dermatoses.

    Main Methods:

    • A double-blind, paired-comparison clinical trial was conducted.
    • Thirty-one patients with bilaterally symmetrical pruritic dermatoses participated.
    • Efficacy was assessed by comparing itch relief between crotamiton lotion and its vehicle.

    Main Results:

    • No statistically significant difference in pruritus relief was observed between crotamiton lotion and its vehicle.
    • The antipruritic effect of crotamiton was not confirmed in this study.

    Conclusions:

    • The findings do not support the use of 10% crotamiton lotion as an effective antipruritic agent for pruritic dermatoses.
    • Results contradict previous uncontrolled studies suggesting crotamiton efficacy.
