    Background:

    • Lower gastrointestinal bleeding (LGIB) management has advanced with technology for precise diagnosis.
    • Angiography is crucial for localizing bleeding sources in LGIB.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate diagnostic and therapeutic trends in managing lower gastrointestinal bleeding.
    • To analyze the effectiveness of interventions for common LGIB sources.

    Main Methods:

    • Retrospective analysis of 40 patients with angiographically demonstrated LGIB.
    • Assessment of Pitressin use for bleeding control.
    • Evaluation of surgical outcomes (colectomy, segmental resection).

    Main Results:

    • Diverticula were the most common source (24/40), with 11 angiographically confirmed.
    • Vascular ectasia (7/40) and other sites (9/40) were identified.
    • Pitressin controlled bleeding in 6/7 diverticular cases but was less effective for vascular ectasia.
    • Surgery achieved hemostasis in 24/25 patients; 16 patients did not require surgery.

    Conclusions:

    • Angiography is vital for diagnosing and localizing LGIB.
    • Surgical intervention is highly effective for persistent LGIB from diverticula and ectasia.
    • Non-operative management is feasible for select LGIB cases.
