    Summary

    Ovarian carcinoma can produce amylase, leading to fluid buildup. Amylase isoenzyme electrophoresis helps distinguish the source of elevated amylase in body fluids.

    • Elevated amylase levels in serum or body fluids can stem from various nonpancreatic conditions.
    • Ovarian tumors, lung cancers, and parotid gland diseases are among the nonpancreatic sources associated with increased amylase.

    • This report details an ovarian carcinoma case associated with amylase-rich ascites and pleural effusions.
    • Salivary-type amylase was specifically identified within the tumor tissue.

    Findings:

    • The presence of salivary-type amylase in ovarian tumor tissue confirms a nonpancreatic origin for the elevated amylase.
    • Amylase isoenzyme electrophoresis is a valuable diagnostic tool.
