    Summary

    Noninvasive oxygen variables accurately estimate physiologic shunt in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The arterial to inspired oxygen ratio (PaO2/FIO2) is a simple yet effective predictor of shunt fraction (Qsp/Qt).

    Background:
