[Choice of fixatives for the immunohistochemical study of antigens using immunoadsorption]

The effect of fixatives on the rat bone marrow antigens was studied by a method combining immunoadsorption and immunodiffusion. This method allows to estimate rapidly and reliably the effect of fixation on immunochemical properties of the antigen under study, using polyvalence antisera. Acetone and ethanol proved to be the best fixatives for the rat bone marrow antigens since they preserved their immunochemical properties. Aldehydes (formaldehyde and glutaraldehyde) "inactivated" the bone marrow antigens.
