Abstract:
This postpartum period is characterized by stimulation of lactation and suppression of ovulation. During pregnancy a number of hormonal changes prepare the breasts for lactation following delivery. The process of lactation is functionally related to the suppression of ovulation. These two physiologic changes observed in the puerperium are considered in detail in this review.
