    Summary

    Patients with left-sided epilepsy lesions show higher rates of depression and anxiety compared to those with right-sided lesions. This suggests a link between the location of brain abnormalities and mood disorders.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the effect of the lateralization of epileptogenic lesions on mood (depression-mania) and anxiety (state and trait).

    • Assessed 20 patients with complex partial seizures and 19 controls using depression scales (Beck, Columbia M-D) and the State and Trait Anxiety Inventory.
    • Classified patients based on seizure onset lateralization (left vs. right temporal foci) using closed-circuit television-EEG telemetry.

    • Patients with left temporal foci exhibited significantly higher scores on depression and trait anxiety compared to right-sided and control groups.
