    Background:

    • Patients with malignancies undergoing therapeutic radiation are susceptible to nutritional problems due to the cancer itself and the treatment.
    • These nutritional issues can be acute or chronic, influenced by tumor site and irradiated areas.
    • Extensive experience exists with nutritional interventions, including oral, enteral, and parenteral support.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy of nutritional support in patients undergoing radiotherapy.
    • To determine if routine nutritional intervention improves treatment response, tolerance, survival, or reduces complications.

    Main Methods:

    • Review of existing literature and prospective randomized trials on nutritional support during radiotherapy.
    • Analysis of factors influencing the decision for nutritional support, such as patient nutritional status, irradiated area, and prognosis.

    Main Results:

    • Nutritional intervention is most beneficial for patients who are already malnourished at the start of treatment.
