Dwyer instrumentation of the spine

The evolution of the Dwyer procedure during the past 10 years has enabled us to better define the indications and contraindications for the procedure. The role of the Dwyer procedure in the treatment of thoracolumbar or lumbar curves in both the adolescent and the adult has been found to be significant. When combined with Harrington rod instrumentation it can be used for either paralytic curves, curves associated with pelvic obliquity, or curves in which posterior elements are absent.
