[Iatrogenic and environmentally dependent diseases of the skeletal system in old age]

After an introduction to the physiology of bone metabolism with special reference to old age, in a review, iatrogenic and environmental factors in the geriatric patient are discussed. Drugs, surgical procedures or ecological problems can cause osteoporosis, osteomalacia, osteonecrosis, fluorosis or ectopic calcification.
