    Summary

    This case study describes a patient with both hairy cell leukaemia (HCL) and multiple myeloma (MM) who later developed adenocarcinoma. This suggests a potential predisposition to developing multiple cancers, possibly due to immune defects.

    Background:

    • Hairy cell leukaemia (HCL) and multiple myeloma (MM) are distinct B-cell lymphoproliferative neoplasms.
    • Simultaneous presentation of HCL and MM is rare, posing unique diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.

    Observation:

    • A single patient presented with concurrent diagnoses of HCL and MM.
    • The patient received treatment with melphalan and irradiation for the initial neoplasms.
    • Following treatment, the patient subsequently developed adenocarcinoma 18 months later.

    Findings:

    • The development of a third, distinct cancer (adenocarcinoma) in the same patient.
    • The patient's history of two B-cell malignancies prior to the adenocarcinoma.

    Implications:

    • This case may indicate an underlying genetic or immunological predisposition to neoplasia in certain patients.
    • Immunological defects associated with B-cell lymphoproliferative diseases could potentially increase the risk of secondary malignancies.
    • Further research into shared risk factors and predispositions for multiple primary cancers is warranted.
