    Background:

    • Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) is a common blood test.
    • Previous ESR reference ranges were established for younger adults (aged 20-65).

    • To establish age- and sex-specific reference ranges for ESR in elderly individuals (aged 60-89).
    • To evaluate the utility of existing ESR ranges in diagnosing disease in the elderly.
