    Summary

    Femorotibial bypass grafting increases platelet reactivity and indicates a hypercoagulable state. Aspirin administration effectively reversed abnormal platelet reactivity in patients post-surgery.

    Background:

    • Femorotibial bypass grafting is a common surgical procedure.
    • Understanding the impact of this surgery on hemostasis is crucial for patient outcomes.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate changes in platelet function and coagulation following femorotibial bypass grafting.
    • To identify markers of a hypercoagulable state post-surgery.

    Main Methods:

    • Serial measurements of platelet aggregation (Kd), antithrombin III, factor VIII-related antigen, and fibrinolytic activity were performed.
    • Measurements were taken preoperatively and on postoperative days 3 and 7 in 24 patients.
    • Platelet reactivity was assessed using collagen-induced aggregation.
