    Background:

    • Valproate is a widely used antiepileptic drug.
    • Weight gain is a reported side effect of valproate therapy.
    • Predictors for valproate-induced weight gain are not well-established.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To analyze weight changes in adult epileptic patients treated with valproate.
    • To identify potential factors associated with weight gain during valproate therapy.

    Main Methods:

    • Retrospective analysis of weight changes in 63 adult epileptic patients.
    • Comparison of demographic, clinical, and biochemical parameters between weight-gaining and weight-stable groups.
    • Structured patient interviews to assess appetite, thirst, and familial predispositions.

    Main Results:

    • 57% of patients gained over 4 kg during valproate treatment.
    • No significant differences were found in age, sex, BMI, treatment duration, dosage, or serum valproate levels between groups.
