    Summary

    Mistabron, a mucolytic drug, is safe for use in bleeding patients. Studies show it does not affect human platelet function or alter coagulation proteins in humans or rats.

    Background:

    • Mistabron is a mucolytic agent frequently administered in clinical settings involving bleeding.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the safety profile of Mistabron in patients experiencing bleeding.
    • To determine if Mistabron affects platelet function and coagulation parameters.

    Main Methods:

    • Human blood samples were tested for platelet aggregation after stimulation with epinephrine, adenosine diphosphate (ADP), and arachidonic acid in the presence of Mistabron.
    • Coagulation proteins were analyzed in vitro using human blood and in vivo using rat models treated with Mesna (the active metabolite of ifenprodil).

    Main Results:

    • Clinically relevant dosages of Mistabron did not impair human platelet aggregation in response to common agonists.
    • Mesna did not induce any modifications in coagulation proteins, as assessed by both in vitro and in vivo experimental designs.

    Conclusions:

    • Mistabron demonstrates a favorable safety profile concerning hemostasis.
    • The drug does not interfere with critical components of the coagulation cascade, supporting its use in bleeding situations.
