    Summary

We developed a cost-effective animal model to easily track nerve-muscle unit recovery after nerve grafting. This model supports histological analysis and demonstrates the feasibility of studying nerve regeneration.

    Area of Science:

    • Neuroscience
    • Regenerative Medicine
    • Surgical Innovation

    Background:

    • Nerve injuries often impair the nerve-muscle unit.
    • Assessing functional recovery after nerve grafting can be challenging.
    • Histological evaluation is crucial for understanding nerve regeneration.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To introduce a novel, cost-effective animal model for studying nerve-muscle unit recovery.
    • To enable easy and consistent monitoring of nerve regeneration post-grafting.
    • To validate the model's utility for histological and histochemical analyses.

    Main Methods:

    • Development of a specific animal model.
    • Performance of nerve grafting procedures.
    • Monitoring of nerve-muscle unit recovery.
    • Compatibility assessment with histological and histochemical techniques.

    Main Results:

    • The proposed animal model allows for straightforward and consistent tracking of nerve-muscle unit recovery.
    • The model is compatible with subsequent histological and histochemical examinations.
    • Demonstrated the model's flexibility by documenting recovery in a group of animals post-nerve grafting.

    Conclusions:

    • This animal model offers a practical and economical approach to studying nerve regeneration.
    • The model facilitates comprehensive analysis of nerve graft outcomes.
    • It provides a valuable tool for preclinical research in nerve repair.
