[Late meningeal changes after dimer-X-myelography in the absence of surgery (author's transl)]
Abstract:
Myelography with Amipaque was carried out in a group of 28 patients who had had previous Dimer-X-myelography, but no surgery. In 12 cases there was radiological evidence of a meningeal reaction. In all these cases there were chronic changes in the lumbar subarachnoid space. The original myelograms showed no evidence of adhesive changes in the root pouches. It was not possible to correlate the radiological findings of the meningeal changes with the severity or type of neurological diseases.
Insights
Previous Dimer-X myelography may cause meningeal reactions, observed in 12 of 28 patients undergoing Amipaque myelography. Chronic lumbar changes were noted, but no correlation with neurological disease severity was found.
Area of Science:
- Radiology
- Neurology
- Medical Imaging
Context:
- Previous Dimer-X myelography in 28 patients without prior surgery.
- Assessing potential adverse effects of contrast agents.
Purpose:
- Evaluate meningeal reactions following Amipaque myelography in patients with prior Dimer-X myelography.
- Investigate correlation between radiological findings and neurological disease.
Summary:
- Radiological evidence of meningeal reaction was found in 12 patients.
- Chronic changes in the lumbar subarachnoid space were observed in these cases.
- No correlation between meningeal changes and neurological disease severity was established.
Impact:
- Highlights potential risks associated with repeated myelography procedures.
- Informs clinical decisions regarding contrast agent selection and patient monitoring.
- Contributes to understanding long-term effects of myelography on the central nervous system.
