    Background:

    • Graves' disease is an autoimmune disorder affecting the thyroid gland.
    • Skin changes, such as pretibial myxedema, are known complications of Graves' disease.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the histological basis of forearm skin thickening in Graves' disease patients.
    • To compare the skin findings in Graves' disease with other thyroid disorders and controls.

    Main Methods:

    • Skin biopsy specimens were obtained from patients with Graves' disease, other thyroid disorders, and controls.
    • Histological examination using Hematoxylin-eosin and Mowry's colloidal iron staining was performed.
    • Analysis focused on dermal infiltration and mucin deposition.

    • Eight of nine Graves' disease patients showed lymphocytic infiltration around dermal capillaries and collagen distortion.
    • Five Graves' disease patients exhibited dense mucin deposits in the papillary dermis.

    • Forearm skin thickening in Graves' disease is associated with dermal mucin deposition.
