    Summary

    This study found that most patients with leg ulcers experience reverse blood flow in perforating veins. This supports the theory that incompetent veins during walking cause postphlebitic leg ulceration.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the blood flow dynamics in the perforating veins of patients with and without leg ulceration.
    • To determine the correlation between abnormal perforating vein blood flow and the presence of leg ulcers.

    • Utilized a novel pulsed multichannel ultrasonic Doppler instrument.
