    Summary

Gastric pseudolymphoma, a benign condition mimicking cancer, requires surgical resection. Most patients recover well after surgery, but recurrence and secondary cancers are possible risks.

    Area of Science:

    • Gastroenterology
    • Surgical Oncology
    • Pathology

    Background:

    • Gastric pseudolymphoma is a rare, benign inflammatory condition often mistaken for gastric carcinoma or lymphoma.
    • It is frequently associated with chronic gastric ulcers, complicating diagnosis and management.

    Observation:

    • This study reviews 12 cases of histologically confirmed gastric pseudolymphoma.
    • Preoperative diagnoses varied, including benign gastric ulcer and gastric cancer.
    • All patients underwent gastric resection, typically antrectomy with lesion excision.

    Findings:

    • Of 11 cases with follow-up, eight were asymptomatic with no recurrence.
    • One patient died of unrelated causes 5 years post-gastrectomy without recurrence.
    • One patient experienced pseudolymphoma recurrence in the gastric remnant; another developed Hodgkin's disease in the remnant.

    Implications:

    • Surgical resection is the standard treatment for gastric pseudolymphoma.
    • While generally successful, long-term surveillance is crucial due to potential recurrence and secondary malignancies.
    • Accurate preoperative diagnosis remains challenging, necessitating a high index of suspicion.
