Transient arthritis of the hip in children (a study of 74 cases)
Abstract:
The author studied 74 cases of transient arthritis of the hip in children. Limp and limitation of internal rotation were present in all cases and in the great majority of patients the symptoms disappeared during the first week, signifying remission of the synovitis. Early radiographic changes are rare and were observed in only 3% of the cases. They showed increased joint space or osteoporosis of the proximal third of the femur. Physical examination and careful follow-up are the most important factors in diagnosis and evaluating the prognosis.
