    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate age-related differences in sigmoidal, rectal, and anal functions.
    • To compare the anal responses, sensation, and elasticity between elderly and young women.

    • Utilized a motility probe with three intraluminal transducers in ten healthy elderly and ten healthy young women.
    • Assessed anal length, resting tone, squeeze pressure, and pullthrough pressures.
    • Evaluated sigmoidal and rectal distention responses and wall elasticity via balloon inflation.
