    Area of Science:

    • Oncology
    • Surgical Pathology

    Background:

    • Liposarcoma is a malignant mesenchymal tumor arising from adipose tissue.
    • It is the most common soft tissue sarcoma in adults, but rare overall.
    • Primary sites vary, with retroperitoneum and lower extremities being common.

    Observation:

    • Six cases of liposarcoma are presented.
    • Primary tumor locations included retroperitoneum (3), lower extremity (2), and jejunal mesentery (1).
    • One retroperitoneal liposarcoma weighed 40 kg, the largest reported.

    Findings:

    • Histological subtypes observed were well-differentiated liposarcoma (retroperitoneum) and myxoid liposarcoma (lower extremity).
    • One patient with recurrent thigh liposarcoma achieved long-term disease-free status after hemipelvectomy.
    • Liposarcoma presentation and management can be complex, requiring tailored approaches.

    Implications:

    • This series expands the understanding of liposarcoma presentation and clinical behavior.
    • It underscores the importance of accurate histological subtyping for prognosis and treatment planning.
    • Successful management of extensive and recurrent liposarcoma is achievable with multidisciplinary care.
