Graphic analysis of the Fick equation to evaluate oxygen transport

A graphic analysis of the Fick equation is used to examine the oxygen transport mechanism. The simple approach allows an evaluation of the effects of changes in arterial O2 content and cardiac output on the oxygen transport mechanism. The method has been used to evaluate the effects of supplemental oxygen and exercise and the results have been compared to those described in the literature on groups of patients with obstructive lung or cardiac disease.
