    Summary

    Magnesium sulfate is the preferred treatment for neonatal tetany, effectively increasing plasma-calcium levels and reducing seizures in infants. This approach is recommended regardless of initial magnesium levels.

    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To compare the efficacy of calcium gluconate, phenobarbitone, and magnesium sulfate in treating symptomatic neonatal hypocalcemia.

    • A randomized controlled trial involving 104 infants with symptomatic hypocalcemia.
