[Long-term therapy of the Parkinson syndrome]
Abstract:
The various drugs available for the treatment of parkinsonism (anticholinergics, L-dopa plus decarboxylase inhibitor, dopamin agonists, amantadine, deprenyl) and stereotaxic surgery are briefly presented. The most important problems of longterm treatment, i.e. dyskinesias, mental disturbances, orthostatic hypotension, decrease of drug effect, on-off-phenomena, are discussed. Finally, some practical suggestions for therapy are given.
