Stellate subperichondrial repair of a double ear cancer

Cancer disguised as dermatitis involved both the anterior and posterior auricular perichondrium, necessitating excision of the middle third of the ear. Closure of this larger defect was effected by a three-pronged subperichondrial wedge excision of cartilage, leaving overlying skin intact. The reconstructed ear, therefore, had fewer scar lines than would have resulted from open-wedge excisions.
