    Background:

    • Manual task performance in cold environments is poorly understood.
    • Task-specific decrements and reduction strategies are not well-defined.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the relationship between task characteristics and cold-induced performance decrements.
    • To determine how cold temperatures and glove use affect manual task abilities.
    • To identify task-specific vulnerabilities to cold and protective gear.

    • 24 U.S. Marines performed a battery of nine standardized manual tasks.
    • Tasks were performed across a range of cold temperatures, with and without gloves.
