A rare aggressive choroid plexus papilloma was successfully resected in a young woman 7 years after initial Arnold-Chiari malformation treatment. Follow-up shows no recurrence after radiation therapy.

    Area of Science:

    • Neuro-oncology
    • Pediatric Neurosurgery
    • Neuropathology

    Background:

    • Arnold-Chiari malformation diagnosis in a young woman.
    • Delayed diagnosis of a posterior third ventricular tumor 7 years later.

    Observation:

    • A young woman presented with a posterior third ventricular tumor.
    • The tumor was identified as an aggressive choroid plexus papilloma.
    • Surgical resection was achieved via a superior cerebellar approach.

    Findings:

    • Total resection of the aggressive choroid plexus papilloma was successful.
    • The patient received whole cerebrospinal axis radiation.
    • No recurrence was observed on clinical or computed tomographic evaluation after 4 years.

    Related Experiment Videos

    Implications:

    • Highlights the potential for delayed presentation of aggressive choroid plexus papilloma.
    • Demonstrates the efficacy of surgical resection and adjuvant radiation therapy.
    • Contributes to the understanding and management of rare aggressive choroid plexus papilloma (carcinoma).
