    Summary

    Krypton laser trabeculoplasty effectively lowered intraocular pressure in patients with glaucoma. This study suggests krypton wavelengths are a viable option for laser trabeculoplasty, comparable to argon laser treatments.

    Background:

    • Glaucoma management often involves procedures to reduce intraocular pressure (IOP).
    • Laser trabeculoplasty is a common surgical option for lowering IOP.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy of krypton laser trabeculoplasty in reducing intraocular pressure.
    • To compare the effectiveness of krypton laser trabeculoplasty with argon laser trabeculoplasty.

    Main Methods:

    • Krypton red (647.1 nm) or krypton yellow (568.2 nm) laser trabeculoplasty was performed on 15 phakic eyes.
    • Intraocular pressure (IOP) changes were monitored over an average follow-up of five months.
    • A subset of patients also underwent argon laser trabeculoplasty in the contralateral eye for comparison.

    Main Results:

    • Krypton laser trabeculoplasty resulted in an average IOP reduction of 8.9 mm Hg.
    • In a comparative analysis, krypton laser trabeculoplasty showed an average IOP drop of 7.2 mm Hg, while argon laser trabeculoplasty yielded a 6.8 mm Hg drop.
    • Both laser modalities demonstrated effectiveness in lowering IOP.
