Improved salvage of the foot with arterial reconstruction

The majority of lower extremity amputations performed today are for occlusive vascular disease, whether associated with diabetes or not. Arterial reconstruction, utilized before definitive amputation for ischemia, may permit a more distally located amputation than would have been possible without the bypass. A case history is presented and pertinent literature reviewed.
